The Orthodox Church in Via Emilia

As you head out of Rimini, on the mythical Via Emilia, you can’t help but notice the ornate and colourful Orthodox church in the Celle zone of the city (where there is also the City Cemetery).

There has been a church in this spot from as far back as the 1200s, though the current building is the result of numerous reconstructions. In 2000, with a growing Orthodox community in Rimini, an agreement was reached with the local Catholic authorities to cede the church to the community. It is now officially La Chiesa dedicata all’Ingresso della Madre di Dio al Tempio.
