Rimini Polo Cup

On the one hand it seems like the most surreal thing you’d ever see – not surprising given that it takes place on the beach within viewing distance of Federico Fellini’s beloved Grand Hotel – while on the other, once the competition is in full swing, it seems perfectly normal to watch thoroughbred horses galloping along the sandy beach as teams compete in the ‘sport of kings’.

For the fifth year running Rimini will play host to the Polo Cup, a horseback polo competition where teams will compete over three days for a special trophy. The competition has been hugely succesful, attracting crowds of local rimini folk and hordes of tourists, with between 20-30,000 spectators.

To give you a flavour, here’s a promo video (in Italian).
