Via Roma Cittá Aperta

What’s Anna Magnani doing on a street sign in Rimini? Of course, you could reply that this amazing Italian actress deserves street signs across Italy (and you’d be right), but there’s a specific link with Rimini.

Anna Magnani on a street sign in Rimini

Via Roma Cittá Aperta is just one of a series of streets along Rimini's seafront that have been renamed in honour of one of the city's most famous sons, Federico Fellini

But Roma Citta Apertá is a Roberto Rosselini film isn't it? Yes, it certainly is, but it was also the film that saw Fellini get one of his first big breaks, as a screenwriter (he was nominated for an Oscar, along with co-writer Sergio Amidei).

Rimini's Strade Felliniane was launched in 2008, with various streets along the seafront being re-named to those of Fellini's films. Each street has a signpost with original movie poster and some information about the film, and makes for a great walk. Via Roma Citta Apertá might seem a mouthful, but then again, spare a though for any residents of Via Le tentazioni del dottor Antonio :)
