No winner in huge Italian lottery jackpot

Europe’s second largest lottery jackpot looks set to grow as yet again no-one managed to pick the 6 winning numbers in Italy’s SuperEnnalotto prize draw. The draw which happens on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays has been building up to fever-pitch over the summer. The last jackpot win was back in January! Now the prize for choosing 6 numbers has grown to an astounding €166million.

Lottery tourists have been flooding across the borders in Northern Italy to play the game, while tourist resorts like Rimini have also seen a massive increase in the amount of people playing the game – Rimini in fact had the highest percentage of players in Italy, as locals and tourists alike play, hoping to snatch the ultimate prize. Only Spain’s record lottery jackpot, last year, of €180million has been bigger in Europe.

But, before you get too excited, let’s take a look at the odds. Players in Italy’s jackpot get to choose six numbers from a panel of 90. Mathematicians have estimated that, rather than being one in a million, you have the odds of 622million to one in getting the right numbers.
