Only Two Hours to spend
I have the chance to stop in Rimini for two hours, before travelling onwards to Milan. What can I do in such a short space of time?
(John ,UK)
One of the great things about Rimini is that there's plenty to see, in a compact space. So, while obviously two hours isn't enough time to fully appreciate the town, it will give you a chance to get a good flavour of Rimini.
We've a number of options for you:
- Walk around the City Centre
The train station is within 5-10mins walk from the historic city centre. You can take a leisurely stroll, and still manage to take in some of the major monuments such as the Arco d'Augusto, the ponte di Tiberio, and the Tempio Malatestiano. Check out our walking tours section. - Have a meal
Food and drink, as a cursory look around this sight will show, plays a huge part in Riminese life. You can sample some of the best sea-food in Italy here, or if that doesn't grab you, get some freshly made local pasta like strozzapreti.
One consideration for this option, though, is how finely you'll be cutting your time. Try to book a table ahead - perhaps in the picturesque Borgo San Giuliano area, which is 10minutes away from the train station and home to a number of top-class restaurants. Make sure you let the waiters know, politely, that you're pushed for time.
Alternatively, during your stroll, pick up a Piadina - Romagna's answer to fast-food. Or some locally produced gelato.
- Head to the Beach
If the weather is good, and your visit is in Season, hop on a bus (#11), outside the station to the seafront. You can avail of the city's free beach space at the very start of the beachfront (beside the pier and the famous Rock Island bar). If you like a bit more comfort, choose from any of the licensed beachfront facilities that hire out loungers and have a myriad of services on offer - including snack-bars, showers, changing rooms, and in some cases Jacuzzis!
