Every year, during the summer, you can find a host of international artists playing in towns up and down the riviera. One of the most eagerly anticipated shows this year is from Patti Smith - a regular visitor to Italy, and hugely popular here.

Smith finishes up a brief Italian summer tour in Sogliano al Rubicone, a small town near Rimini.

Smith, born in Chicago in 1946, is an outspoken poet, songwriter and artist who has managed to combine commercial success with credibility. Her hits have included 'Because the night' (co-written with Bruce Springsteen), 'Dancing Barefoot' (covered by, amongst others U2), and 'People have the power'. Her most recent album was 2008's live collaboration with My Bloody Valentine guitarist Kevin Shields The Coral Sea.
