Asian Dub Foundation
Fri 14th November 2008 - Velvet
The Asian Dub Foundation play Rimini's Velvet club as part of their European tour to promote the album Punkara (with only one other date in Italy).
The British band formed in 1993, as part of a community project bringing music skills to the Asian community at London's Farringdon Community Music House.
The band has been eclectic from the start featuring toasting, Dub, hard ragga-jungle rhythms, indo-dub basslines, sitar- inspired guitars and 'traditional' sounds.
The band, without compromising their distinctive sound and up-front poltics, have won a large audience and critical respect - they've been nominated for the Mercury music prize, have collaborated with musicians as diverse as Sinead O'Connor and Public Enemy's Chuck D.
The band have also done a number of shows where they have re-scored the films La Haine, and Gillo Pontecorvo's classic Battle for Algiers.
Their new album is highly anticipated, and features a single recorded with Iggy Pop.
Asian Dub Foundation play Rimini's Velvet on Saturday 15th of November. Tickets cost €20 and are available from the venue and usual outlets.
